Maureen Denise McCormick, youngest daughter and sole child from Richard McCormick and Irene McCormick, was born in Woodland Hills on 5 August 1956. Her mother was at home and was an only child. She has three older brothers: Michael, Dennis and Kevin. McCormick began singing and dancing from a young age, and frequently performed show-like puppets for the children from her neighborhood. Following her win in her first Baby Miss San Fernando Valley contest when she was just six years old, Pat Domigan called from Jack Wormser Agency to ask if McCormick wanted to go into show business. McCormick received her first significant performance in 1964, when she was cast in the television advertisement of Mattel's "Baby Pattaburp,"" their latest doll. Later that year, she did another commercial for the company's "Chatty the Cathy" doll. She was then part of the production"Wind It Up And It Breaks, in the Playhouse at La Jolla Playhouse. McCormick won a 1969 audition of 1,200 children to become one of the oldest twins in the TV show The Brady Bunch. Florence Henderson and Robert Reed played newlyweds who were part of a family that was blended. The show lasted for five seasons. In her book, Here's the story: Surviving Marcia Brady and Finding My True Voice which was published in 2008, McCormick revealed that during the show's fifth season, she was close to losing her virginity to her screen brother and co-star, Barry Williams. The actress was sixteen years young, while the actor was aged 19. "It would have happened," she said, "but the timing was never suitable for us."
