DanicaDanica Sue Patrick is an American former professional racer. Danica Sue Patrick is among the most accomplished female in American open-wheel car racing in history. Her win in Indy Japan 300 was her first triumph. She dropped out of high school with her parents' permission in 1998 and moved to the United Kingdom to further her career. Patrick was a racer in Formula Vauxhall before moving to the United States in 2001 because of a lack of funds. In 2002, she raced in five Barber Dodge Pro Series races in conjunction with Rahal Letterman racing. Patrick was a Toyota Atlantic Series racer for the next two seasons. Her best finish was third in championship standings for the 2004 season. She became one of the women in the series to take home the pole position. She was named the IndyCar Series rookie of the year in 2005, and won the Indianapolis 500. She showed improvement over the following two years working for Rahal Letterman Racing in 2006 and then Andretti Green Racing in 2007. Patrick finished sixth in the driver's standings following her win in Japan. Her performance improved to finish fifth in the driver's standings the following season. This was her best result in the Indianapolis 500 and a career-high for Patrick. Patrick's overall record was disappointing in 2010, however, she scored two second-place finishes at oval tracks before leaving IndyCar to focus on racing stock cars.
